During winter of 2018-2019, I spent seven months in Chamonix, at the foot of Mont-Blanc in the heart of the French Alps. In June 2019, I went hiking in the Dolomites, the heart of the Italian Alps. The Alps are a very large mountain range spanning across Europe and crossing eight countries. Its summit culminates at 4809 meters at the top of Mont-Blanc. From Chamonix, the summit of Mont-Blanc is clearly visible when the weather permits. The Mont-Blanc chain and that of the Aiguilles Rouges opposite are two mountains made of granite and gneiss, widely traveled in winter by skiers and in summer by hikers and alpinists. Interspersed with glaciers and long valleys, the region fascinates me. The Dolomites on the Italian side, an ancient coral massif, are also very popular in all seasons. Their particular aspect, very rugged, almost architectural, is fascinating to observe.
